Vasili III of Russia, born on March twenty-fifth, fourteen seventy-nine, served as the Grand Prince of Moscow and all Russia from fifteen oh five until his death in fifteen thirty-three. He was the second son of Ivan III and his second wife, Sophia Paleologue, inheriting a legacy of ambition and expansion.
During his reign, Vasili III continued the territorial ambitions of his father, successfully annexing Pskov and Ryazan, the last remaining autonomous Russian territories. His military prowess was further demonstrated by the capture of the city of Smolensk from Lithuania, which solidified his power and influence in the region.
In addition to territorial expansion, Vasili III worked to strengthen Russian influence in Kazan and the Volga region. His reign was marked by a strict approach to governance, as several nobles faced exile, sentencing, or execution for voicing criticism against his policies, reflecting the challenges of leadership during a time of significant change.
