Vedran Smailović

Vedran Smailović, born on November 11, 1956, is a renowned Bosnian musician and composer, famously known as the "Cellist of Sarajevo." His remarkable talent and courage were showcased during the harrowing siege of Sarajevo, where he played Albinoni's Adagio in G minor amidst the ruins of the city. Often performing under the threat of snipers, he brought solace to mourners by playing at funerals, turning his music into a symbol of hope and resilience.

His extraordinary acts of bravery not only inspired those around him but also influenced the literary world, leading to the creation of the novel "The Cellist of Sarajevo" by Steven Galloway.
