Venki Ramakrishnan

Venki Ramakrishnan, born in nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished British-American structural biologist renowned for his groundbreaking research in the field of molecular biology. His work has significantly advanced our understanding of ribosomes, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis.

In recognition of his contributions to science, Ramakrishnan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in two thousand nine, sharing this prestigious honor with fellow scientists Thomas A. Steitz and Ada Yonath. Their collaborative research shed light on the intricate structure and function of ribosomes, a pivotal area in biochemistry.

Since nineteen ninety-nine, he has been a group leader at the Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Molecular Biology located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the United Kingdom.
