Vera Baboun

Vera Baboun, born on October sixth, nineteen sixty-four, is a prominent Palestinian politician and educator, renowned for her groundbreaking role as the first female mayor of Bethlehem. Her academic journey is marked by a master's degree in African-American literature, which has significantly influenced her approach to education and community leadership.

Before her historic election, Baboun dedicated her career to education, serving as the principal of the Roman Catholic High School in Beit Sahour from two thousand ten to two thousand twelve. Her earlier tenure at Bethlehem University spanned from nineteen ninety to two thousand ten, where she not only lectured in English literature but also held the position of Assistant Dean of Students from two thousand to two thousand six.

In addition to her educational contributions, Baboun is actively involved in community service as the chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Guidance and Training Centre for Family and Children. Her research in gender studies, particularly within the GRACE network, focuses on the empowering role of information technology for women in the Arab world, showcasing her commitment to gender equality and social progress.
