Vernon L. Smith

Vernon L. Smith, born in nineteen twenty-seven, is a distinguished American economist renowned for his pioneering contributions to behavioral and experimental economics. Currently, he serves as a professor of economics and law at Chapman University, having previously held esteemed positions at the University of Arizona and George Mason University. His innovative work has established laboratory experiments as a vital tool in empirical economic analysis, particularly in exploring alternative market mechanisms.

In recognition of his groundbreaking research, Smith was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in two thousand two, sharing this honor with Daniel Kahneman. His influence extends beyond academia; he is the founder and president of the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREEE) and has served on the board of advisors for the Independent Institute and as a senior fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington D.C.
