Victor Willis

Victor Willis, born on July first, nineteen fifty-one, is an iconic American singer, songwriter, and actor, best known as a founding member of the legendary disco group Village People. As the lead singer, he played a pivotal role in the group's success, co-writing all of their most popular singles while captivating audiences with his dynamic performances, often donning costumes as a policeman or a naval officer.

Raised as the son of a Baptist preacher, Willis honed his vocal talents in his father's church, where he developed a passion for music. His artistic journey took him to New York City, where he joined the esteemed Negro Ensemble Company. There, he showcased his talents in various musicals and plays, including the original Broadway production of The Wiz in nineteen seventy-six, and later, the Australian production.

In the mid-seventies, Willis ventured into recording, producing several albums for independent labels. His career took a significant turn when he met French disco producer Jacques Morali, who recognized his extraordinary vocal abilities. Morali famously described him as the 'young man with the big voice' and envisioned Willis as the lead vocalist for his upcoming album, a dream that would soon become a reality.
