Victoria Roshchyna

Victoria Roshchyna, born on October sixth, nineteen ninety-six, was a dedicated Ukrainian journalist and human rights defender. Renowned for her courageous reporting, she focused on critical issues, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the harrowing Siege of Mariupol. Her commitment to truth and justice earned her the prestigious International Women's Media Foundation's Courage in Journalism Award in two thousand twenty-two.

Tragically, Roshchyna's life was cut short when she disappeared in August two thousand twenty-three. Her fate was confirmed in October two thousand twenty-four, revealing that she had died in Russian detention. The circumstances surrounding her death were deeply disturbing; upon the return of her body to Ukraine, it exhibited signs of torture, strangulation, and the removal of some organs.

The Ukrainian government responded to this heinous act by announcing an investigation into her death, treating it as a potential murder and war crime. On September twenty-fourth, two thousand twenty-five, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office disclosed that Roshchyna had died on September nineteenth, two thousand twenty-four, in detention center No. 3, located in Kizel, Perm Krai, Russia.
