Viorica Viscopoleanu

Viorica Viscopoleanu, born on August 8, 1939, is a celebrated retired Romanian long jumper who left an indelible mark on the world of athletics. Her illustrious career is highlighted by her participation in three Olympic Games: 1964, 1968, and 1972. Viorica's crowning achievement came in 1968 when she not only clinched the gold medal but also set a new world record, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination.

In addition to her Olympic success, Viorica excelled at the European Championships, where she earned a silver medal outdoors in 1969. Her indoor performances were equally impressive, securing a gold medal in 1970 and a bronze in 1971. These accomplishments solidified her status as one of the top athletes of her time.

After hanging up her competitive shoes, Viorica transitioned into coaching, dedicating her expertise to nurturing the next generation of athletes at her club, Steaua București. Among her notable trainees was Monica Iagăr, who benefited from Viorica's extensive knowledge and experience in the sport.
