Vistahm, also known as Bistam, was a prominent military leader of the Parthian dynasty, specifically from the esteemed Ispahbudhan house. He held a significant familial connection as the maternal uncle of Khosrow II, the Sasanian king of kings of Iran, who reigned from five hundred ninety to six hundred twenty-eight.
His military prowess was instrumental in aiding Khosrow II to reclaim his throne following the insurrection led by Bahram Chobin, a noble from the House of Mihran. Vistahm's loyalty, however, was short-lived as he later initiated a revolt against Khosrow, asserting his independence over a vast region that spanned the entirety of the Iranian East.
Despite his initial successes, Vistahm's reign was ultimately challenged. He faced defeat at the hands of Khosrow and his allies, marking a significant turning point in the power dynamics of the region. His legacy remains intertwined with the tumultuous history of the Parthian and Sasanian empires.
