Vladimir Alekno

Vladimir Alekno, born on December fourth, nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished figure in the world of volleyball, both as a player and a coach. His volleyball journey commenced in nineteen eighty-four with SKA Minsk, where he honed his skills and laid the foundation for a remarkable career.

Alekno's coaching prowess came to the forefront when he took the helm of the Russian national volleyball team during two significant periods: from two thousand seven to two thousand eight and again from two thousand eleven to two thousand twelve. Under his guidance, the team achieved remarkable success, clinching the gold medal at the two thousand twelve Summer Olympics and securing a bronze medal in two thousand eight. Additionally, his leadership led the team to victory in both the World League and the World Cup in two thousand eleven.

In two thousand twenty, Alekno was appointed as the head coach of the Iran national volleyball team, marking a new chapter in his coaching career. However, his public support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine has drawn significant controversy, leading to his inclusion on the Ukrainian Mirotvorets list as an alleged accomplice in the actions of the Russian authorities against Ukraine and its citizens.
