Vladimir Krutov

Vladimir Yevgenyevich Krutov, known affectionately as "The Tank," was a prominent figure in the world of ice hockey, born on June first, nineteen sixty. He made his mark as a forward, showcasing his exceptional skills during the 1980s, a golden era for the sport. Krutov was a key member of the legendary KLM Line, alongside Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov, and is celebrated as one of the finest wingers of his time.

Throughout his illustrious career, Krutov played an instrumental role in the Soviet Union national team, contributing to their remarkable achievements. He was part of the squad that clinched the Canada Cup in nineteen eighty-one and secured two Olympic gold medals in nineteen eighty-four and nineteen eighty-eight, along with a silver in nineteen eighty. His prowess was further demonstrated at the World Championships, where he helped his team to five gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

On the club level, Krutov spent over a decade with CSKA Moscow from nineteen seventy-eight to nineteen eighty-nine. He was among the first Soviet players to transition to the NHL, joining the Vancouver Canucks in nineteen eighty-nine. Unfortunately, his time in North America was marred by challenges, including homesickness and weight issues, leading to the unflattering nickname "Vlad the Inhaler." After a single season in the NHL, he returned to Europe, playing in Swiss and Swedish leagues before eventually retiring to pursue a coaching career.

In two thousand ten, Krutov's contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame. He passed away on June sixth, two thousand twelve, due to internal bleeding and liver failure, just five days after celebrating his fifty-second birthday. His legacy continues through his son, Alexei Krutov, who also played professionally from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand seventeen.
