Vladimir Vasyutin

Vladimir Vasyutin, born on March eighth, nineteen fifty-two, was a distinguished Soviet cosmonaut and aircraft pilot. His journey into the cosmos began when he was selected as a cosmonaut on December first, nineteen seventy-eight, as part of the TsPK-6 program. Vasyutin's career in space exploration was marked by his assignment to the TKS program, which aimed to develop a new generation of crewed military spacecraft.

As the Commander of Soyuz T-14, Vasyutin embarked on a long-duration mission to the Salyut 7 space station, where he was expected to lead an extensive program of military space experiments. During his time in space, he spent sixty-four days, twenty-one hours, and fifty-two minutes in orbit. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving at the station, he fell ill due to a concealed prostate infection, which led to an emergency return to Earth after only two months instead of the planned six-month stay.

Vasyutin's educational background includes graduation from the Higher Air Force School and the Test Pilot School in Kharkov. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant General in the Soviet Air Forces and completed cosmonaut basic training in August nineteen seventy-six. His retirement from active duty occurred on February twenty-fifth, nineteen eighty-six, primarily for medical reasons.

After his retirement, Vasyutin continued to contribute to the field of aviation as the Deputy Faculty Chief at the VVA – Gagarin Air Force Academy in Monino. He was a family man, married with two children. Sadly, he passed away due to cancer, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and dedication to space exploration.
