Vlastimir

Vlastimir, a notable figure in Serbian history, served as the prince of Serbia from approximately eight hundred thirty until around eight hundred fifty-one. His reign, though shrouded in mystery, was marked by significant geopolitical challenges, particularly from the expanding First Bulgarian Empire.

During Vlastimir's rule, Serbia faced the looming threat of invasion as the Bulgarian Empire, previously a peaceful neighbor, began to encroach upon Serbian territory. Despite being under the nominal protection of the Byzantine Empire, the Byzantine Emperor was unable to provide military assistance to the Serbs in the face of this growing danger.

The situation escalated when Presian I of Bulgaria launched an invasion of Serbia, leading to a protracted conflict that lasted three years. Ultimately, Vlastimir's forces triumphed, successfully driving the Bulgarian army out of Serbian lands.

Following this victory, Vlastimir turned his attention westward, expanding his influence deep into the hinterland of Dalmatia. He is also recognized as the eponymous founder of the Vlastimirović dynasty, which holds the distinction of being the first Serbian dynasty.
