Vologases IV

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Vologases IV

Vologases IV, born in the year one hundred fifty, ascended to the throne as the King of Kings of the Parthian Empire in one hundred forty-seven. He was the son of Mithridates V, who ruled from one hundred twenty-nine to one hundred forty. Vologases dedicated the early years of his reign to re-establishing Parthian dominance over the Kingdom of Characene, a crucial region for the empire.

Between the years one hundred sixty and one hundred sixty-six, Vologases engaged in a significant conflict with the Roman Empire. Initially, he achieved notable victories, successfully conquering territories such as Armenia and Syria. However, the tides of war shifted, and he faced setbacks, including the temporary loss of the Parthian capitals, Seleucia and Ctesiphon, to Roman forces.

The Roman campaign was severely impacted by a devastating plague that erupted in Seleucia in one hundred sixty-six, which forced them to retreat. Despite this, the war concluded unfavorably for Vologases, resulting in the loss of most of northern Mesopotamia to the Romans. His reign came to an end in one hundred ninety, after which he was succeeded by his son, Vologases V.
