In nineteen ninety, he co-founded the Serbian Renewal Movement and took on the role of president, a position he held until twenty twenty-four. His political involvement deepened during the tumultuous times of the late nineties when he served as the war-time Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in nineteen ninety-nine under Slobodan Milošević. Additionally, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs for both Serbia and Montenegro and Serbia from two thousand four to two thousand seven.
