Vuk Jeremić

Vuk Jeremić, born on July third, nineteen seventy-five, is a prominent Serbian politician and diplomat known for his significant contributions on the international stage. He served as the youngest President of the United Nations General Assembly from two thousand twelve to two thousand thirteen and held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia from two thousand seven to two thousand twelve. His early life was marked by a forced departure from Yugoslavia in the early nineteen nineties due to political tensions with the communist government.

Jeremić's academic journey took him to prestigious institutions, graduating from the University of Cambridge in nineteen ninety-eight and Harvard University in two thousand three. During the tumultuous political landscape of the nineteen nineties, he was actively involved in pro-democracy student movements. His political career began in the early two thousands when he joined Serbia's most westward-leaning government as an advisor to President Boris Tadić.

As Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeremić was instrumental in Serbia's response to Kosovo's unilateral secession and played a key role in improving relations with the West. His tenure saw the European Union lift visa restrictions for Serbian citizens in two thousand nine and the country being declared a candidate for EU membership in two thousand twelve. His leadership in the UN General Assembly was marked by significant achievements, including the granting of non-member observer status to Palestine and the adoption of the Arms Trade Treaty.

In addition to his political roles, Jeremić is the current president of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development and serves as editor-in-chief of Horizons, a global public policy magazine. He was a candidate for the United Nations Secretary-General in two thousand sixteen, finishing second, and ran as an independent candidate in the two thousand seventeen Serbian presidential election. In October two thousand seventeen, he founded the People's Party and joined Sciences Po as an Adjunct Professor at the Paris School of International Affairs in September two thousand twenty-three.
