Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Vukan Nemanjić

Vukan Nemanjić, born in 1165, was a prominent Serbian politician who served as the Grand Prince of Serbia from 1202 to 1204. He was the eldest of three sons of the notable Serbian grand prince Stefan Nemanja, who recognized Vukan's capabilities by appointing him as governor in Pomorje around 1190.

As the Grand Prince of Pomorje, with his center in Zeta, Vukan ruled effectively from approximately 1195 until his death. His governance was marked by significant political maneuvering, particularly in 1196 when his father abdicated the Serbian throne, designating Vukan's younger brother, Stefan, as the principal heir while Vukan continued to oversee Pomorje.

In a dramatic turn of events in 1202, Vukan orchestrated a coup with the assistance of the King of Hungary, successfully overthrowing his brother Stefan. However, this power shift was short-lived, as Stefan reclaimed the throne just two years later. The reconciliation between the brothers was facilitated by their third sibling, who later became known as Saint Sava, allowing Vukan to maintain his rule in Zeta until his passing.
