W. T. Cosgrave, born on June sixth, eighteen eighty, was a prominent Irish politician who played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Irish Free State. He served as the President of the Executive Council from nineteen twenty-two to nineteen thirty-two, a period marked by significant political transformation in Ireland.
In addition to his role as President, Cosgrave was the Leader of the Opposition from nineteen thirty-two to nineteen forty-four and led the Fine Gael party from nineteen thirty-four to nineteen forty-four. He was also the founder and leader of Cumann na nGaedheal, a political party he guided from nineteen twenty-three to nineteen thirty-three.
His political career included serving as Chairman of the Provisional Government in August nineteen twenty-two and as President of Dáil Éireann for a brief period in September nineteen twenty-two. He held the position of Minister for Finance from nineteen twenty-two to nineteen twenty-three and was Minister for Local Government from nineteen nineteen to nineteen twenty-two. Cosgrave was a Teachta Dála (TD) from nineteen twenty-one until nineteen forty-four and represented North Kilkenny as a Member of Parliament from nineteen eighteen to nineteen twenty-two.
