Waldemar Heckel

Waldemar Heckel, a distinguished Canadian historian, was born in Bad Königshofen, Germany, in nineteen forty-nine. His academic journey began at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he earned his master's degree in nineteen seventy-three. He furthered his studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, obtaining his doctorate in nineteen seventy-eight.

Heckel's dissertation focused on the 'marshals' of Alexander the Great, a topic that would later serve as the foundation for his influential work published in nineteen ninety-two. Renowned for his expertise, he has made significant contributions to the understanding of Alexander the Great, alongside his research interests in ancient Greek history and warfare.

Throughout his career, Heckel has been recognized internationally for his scholarly work, publishing numerous articles and books that have enriched the field of ancient history. Until his retirement in late two thousand thirteen, he shared his knowledge and passion for history as a professor at the University of Calgary, inspiring countless students.
