Waleed Al-Husseini

Waleed Al-Husseini, born on June twenty-fifth, nineteen eighty-nine, is a prominent Palestinian writer, essayist, and philosopher. Raised in Qalqilya in the West Bank, he has made significant contributions to discussions on secularism and women's rights. Since relocating to France in two thousand twelve, Al-Husseini has become a vocal advocate for freedom of expression and a critic of radical Islam.

His journey took a dramatic turn in October two thousand ten when he was arrested by the Palestinian Authority for allegedly blaspheming against Islam through his writings on Facebook and his blog. This incident not only highlighted the precarious nature of free speech in the Palestinian territories but also drew international attention to the challenges faced by those who dare to question religious norms.

During his imprisonment, Al-Husseini reported experiencing torture, a harrowing ordeal that intensified his resolve to seek asylum. Upon his release, he fled to France, where he was granted asylum and has since dedicated himself to advocating for secularism and opposing the rise of political Islam, which he believes threatens the secular fabric of French society.
