Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Walter Model

Walter Model, born on January 24, 1891, was a prominent German Generalfeldmarschall during World War II, renowned for his strategic prowess on the battlefield. Initially recognized as a hard-driving and aggressive panzer commander, Model's reputation evolved as he became a master of defensive warfare. His early successes as the commander of the Ninth Army during the critical battles of 1941 and 1942 significantly shaped his military career.

Model's relationship with Adolf Hitler began to flourish before the onset of World War II, but it was not until 1942 that they developed a closer bond. His unwavering loyalty to the Nazi regime and his tenacious fighting style earned him accolades from Hitler, who regarded him as one of his most capable field commanders. Model was frequently dispatched to address dire situations on the Eastern Front, commanding various army groups, including Army Group North, Army Group North Ukraine, and Army Group Centre.

In August 1944, Model was appointed as the commander of OB West and Army Group B on the Western Front. However, as the war progressed, his relationship with Hitler deteriorated, particularly following the German defeat at the Battle of the Bulge. The culmination of his military career came with the encirclement of Army Group B in the Ruhr Pocket, leading to a tragic end when Model took his own life on April 21, 1945.
