Walther Funk

Walther Funk, born on August eighteenth, nineteen hundred, was a prominent German economist and a key figure in the Nazi regime. His career began as a finance journalist before he joined the Nazi Party in nineteen thirty-one, quickly ascending to a senior position within the Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. His expertise in economics led to his appointment as Reichsminister for the Economy by Adolf Hitler in nineteen thirty-eight, a role he held until the end of World War II in nineteen forty-five.

As the president of the Reichsbank from nineteen thirty-nine, Funk played a crucial role in mobilizing the German economy for rearmament and the war effort. He was instrumental in the expropriation of assets from victims of Nazi concentration camps, actions that would later contribute to his conviction for crimes against humanity.

Funk's tenure as economics minister lasted nearly the entirety of the war, until he was removed from his position on May fifth, nineteen forty-five, following his exclusion from the Flensburg Government. After the war, he faced justice at the Nuremberg Tribunal, where he was tried and convicted as a major war criminal, receiving a life sentence.

Incarcerated in West Berlin, Funk was released in nineteen fifty-seven on health grounds. He lived for three more years before passing away in nineteen sixty, leaving behind a controversial legacy marked by his significant yet troubling contributions to the Nazi economic policies.
