Wang Liqin, born on June 18, 1978, is a distinguished Chinese table tennis player who has made significant contributions to the sport. He began his journey in table tennis at the tender age of six and quickly rose through the ranks, earning a spot on the Chinese men's national squad by the age of fifteen in 1993.
Throughout his illustrious career, Wang Liqin achieved remarkable success, securing three World Championships. His exceptional skills and dedication to the sport led him to be ranked number one by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) for an impressive twenty-five consecutive months, from September 2000 to September 2002. This achievement stands as the second-longest period of being the world's top player as of January 2011.
After a celebrated career, Wang Liqin retired from the national team at the end of 2013. Following his retirement, he continued to serve the sport in various leadership roles within athletic organizations in Shanghai, focusing on table tennis and badminton.
In a significant development for the sport, Wang Liqin was appointed as the new president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association on April 23, 2025, succeeding Liu Guoliang. Under his leadership, renowned player Ma Long will take on the role of vice-president, marking a new chapter for the association.
