Wang Shu, born on November fourth, nineteen sixty-three, is a distinguished Chinese architect renowned for his innovative approach to architecture. Based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, he serves as the dean of the School of Architecture at the China Academy of Art, where he influences the next generation of architects.
Together with his wife, Lu Wenyu, Wang co-founded the Amateur Architecture Studio, a firm celebrated for its commitment to sustainable and contextually relevant design. Their collaborative efforts have garnered significant attention and respect within the architectural community.
In two thousand twelve, Wang Shu made history by becoming the first Chinese citizen to receive the prestigious Pritzker Prize, often regarded as the highest honor in architecture. This accolade, however, sparked controversy as it did not recognize Lu Wenyu, despite their extensive partnership and shared vision in their architectural endeavors.
