Waqar Younis, born on November sixteenth, nineteen seventy-one, is a distinguished Pakistani cricket coach, commentator, and former cricketer. Renowned for his exceptional skills as a right-arm fast bowler, he is celebrated as one of the greatest bowlers in the history of cricket. Younis captained the Pakistan national cricket team and was instrumental in leading the squad to the finals of the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
Throughout his illustrious career, which spanned from nineteen eighty-nine to two thousand three, Younis played eighty-seven Test matches and two hundred sixty-two One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan. He is particularly noted for his remarkable ability to reverse swing the cricket ball at high speeds, amassing a total of three hundred seventy-three Test wickets and four hundred sixteen ODI wickets. His partnership with fellow bowler Wasim Akram created one of the most formidable bowling attacks in the world.
Younis holds the record for being the youngest Pakistani Test captain at the age of twenty-two years and fifteen days, and he ranks as the fourth youngest Test captain in cricket history. He also boasts the second-best strike rate among bowlers with over three hundred fifty Test wickets, trailing only Dale Steyn. Additionally, he is recognized as the youngest bowler to achieve four hundred wickets in ODI cricket and is consistently ranked among the top ten bowlers of all time by the ICC.
In terms of coaching, Younis has had a significant impact on the Pakistani cricket team. He served as a bowling coach from two thousand six to two thousand seven and was appointed head coach on March third, two thousand ten. After resigning in August two thousand eleven, he took on the role of bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad during the Indian Premier League in two thousand thirteen. Most recently, on September fourth, two thousand nineteen, he was reappointed as Pakistan's bowling coach on a three-year contract, succeeding Azhar Mahmood following a disappointing World Cup performance.
