Wei Hui

Wei Hui, born on January 4, 1973, is a prominent Chinese novelist, screenwriter, and writer known for her bold narratives and exploration of contemporary themes. Her literary career took a significant turn with the publication of her debut novel in 1999, which was controversially banned in the People's Republic of China for being deemed 'decadent'. This early setback did not deter her creative spirit; instead, it propelled her to further explore the boundaries of literature.

In 2005, Wei Hui released her latest novel, 'Marrying Buddha' (我的禅), which faced its own challenges in the form of censorship. The book was modified and published in China under a different title, showcasing the ongoing struggle for artistic expression within the confines of governmental restrictions.

Wei Hui is often associated with Mian Mian, another influential figure in the 'New Generation' of Chinese writers. Together, they represent a shift in Chinese literature, characterized by a more open and provocative approach to storytelling, reflecting the complexities of modern life in China.
