He was appointed head of the Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle (VOMI), an organization tasked with the resettlement of ethnic Germans into the 'German Reich' from various parts of Europe. This role also involved the colonization of occupied territories during World War II, marking a controversial chapter in his life.

Following the war, Lorenz faced the consequences of his actions and was sentenced to prison for crimes against humanity in nineteen forty-eight. After serving time, he was released in nineteen fifty-four, only to pass away two decades later in nineteen seventy-four.
