Whitney Engen

Whitney Engen, born on November 28, 1987, is a distinguished American former soccer player and a celebrated FIFA Women's World Cup champion. Known for her prowess as a defender, she made significant contributions to the United States women's national soccer team and played for various clubs, including the Boston Breakers in the National Women's Soccer League, the premier division of women's soccer in the United States.

Engen's journey with the national team began during the 2011 Algarve Cup, where she made her debut against Norway on March 4. Over her international career, she earned forty caps and scored four goals, showcasing her defensive skills and ability to contribute offensively. Her accolades include representing the United States in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2016 Olympic tournament.

Her collegiate career at the University of North Carolina, where she played for the Tar Heels from two thousand six to two thousand nine, laid the foundation for her professional journey. Engen was selected fourth overall in the 2010 WPS Draft by the Chicago Red Stars, marking the beginning of her professional career. Between two thousand eleven and two thousand fifteen, she played for several teams, including the Western New York Flash, Tyresö FF, Pali Blues, Liverpool Ladies, and the Houston Dash, before concluding her professional playing days with the Boston Breakers in the two thousand sixteen NWSL season.

On October 2, 2016, Engen announced her release from the United States women's national team, marking a significant transition in her career. Subsequently, on February 6, 2017, she declared her decision to step away from professional soccer, confirming that she would not participate in the NWSL that year.
