Wilhelm Bittrich

Wilhelm Bittrich, born on February twenty-sixth, nineteen ninety-four, was a prominent military officer in Nazi Germany, known for his high-ranking position within the Waffen-SS. His military career was marked by significant commands during critical operations in World War II.

From August nineteen forty-two to February nineteen forty-three, Bittrich led the SS Cavalry Division Florian Geyer, focusing on rear security operations in the Soviet Union, a role that involved combating partisan activities. His leadership extended to the 2nd SS Panzer Corps from July nineteen forty-four until the war's conclusion, where he played a pivotal role in the Normandy campaign, Operation Market Garden, and the battles in Hungary.

After the war, Bittrich was arrested in May nineteen forty-five and subsequently extradited to France. He faced trial for his involvement in the executions of seventeen members of the French Resistance. Although he was convicted on lesser charges related to these events, he received a five-year prison sentence.

Upon his release, Bittrich became actively involved in HIAG, a revisionist organization that served as a lobby group for former Waffen-SS members. He notably held the position of chairman during the nineteen seventies, continuing to influence discussions surrounding the legacy of the Waffen-SS.
