Will H. Hays

William Harrison Hays Sr., born on November 5, 1879, was a prominent American politician and a key figure in the Republican Party. His political career took off when he served as the chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1918 to 1921, where he played a pivotal role in orchestrating the successful presidential campaign of Warren G. Harding in 1920.

Following Harding's victory, Hays was appointed as the first Postmaster General in the Harding administration. His tenure in the cabinet was marked by significant developments until he resigned in 1922 to take on a new challenge in the entertainment industry.

As the inaugural chairman of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, Hays was instrumental in establishing the Motion Picture Production Code, commonly referred to as the Hays Code. This set of moral guidelines aimed to regulate the content of American cinema, ensuring that films adhered to certain ethical standards.
