William Barton Rogers, born on December seventh, eighteen oh four, was a prominent American physicist and geologist, best known as the founder and first president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His academic journey began at the College of William & Mary, where he taught from eighteen twenty-eight to eighteen thirty-five, before moving to the University of Virginia, where he served from eighteen thirty-five to eighteen fifty-three. During his tenure at the university, he was appointed Virginia's first state geologist and led the state's inaugural geological survey.
