William E. Simon

William E. Simon, born on November twenty-seventh, nineteen twenty-seven, was a prominent American businessman and philanthropist who made significant contributions to both the private and public sectors. He is best known for his role as the sixty-third United States Secretary of the Treasury, a position he assumed on May ninth, nineteen seventy-four, during the Nixon administration.

Following President Nixon's resignation, Simon was reappointed by President Gerald Ford, serving in this critical role until nineteen seventy-seven when President Jimmy Carter took office. His tenure was marked by a strong advocacy for laissez-faire capitalism, a philosophy he passionately promoted throughout his career.

Outside of his governmental duties, Simon was a successful businessman and dedicated philanthropist. He established the William E. Simon Foundation, which continues to uphold his legacy of charitable work and support for various causes. Simon famously articulated his belief in the free-market system, stating, 'There is only one social system that reflects the sovereignty of the individual: the free-market, or capitalist, system.'
