William Egbert

William Egbert, born on February twenty-fifth, eighteen fifty-seven, emerged from humble beginnings in a farming family in what is now Ontario, Canada. His early education took place at Ottawa Normal School, where he honed his skills before stepping into the world of education as a teacher and principal in various Ontario schools.

After obtaining his medical degrees, Egbert began his practice in Milverton, Ontario. In nineteen hundred and four, he relocated to Calgary, where he became actively involved in the political landscape as Alberta transitioned into Confederation. His political journey included an attempt to secure a legislative seat for the Liberal Party of Alberta during the nineteen oh five general election, although he was not successful.

In nineteen twenty-five, Egbert's political aspirations took a significant turn when he was appointed as the third lieutenant governor of Alberta by Liberal Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King. Over the next six years, he embraced his role, engaging in numerous activities that included welcoming the Prince of Wales and hosting students from the University of Alberta.

Egbert's tenure as lieutenant governor concluded in nineteen thirty-one, after which he returned to his medical practice. His life came to a close in nineteen thirty-six, following a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with both medicine and public service.
