William Hanna

William Hanna, born on July 14, 1910, was a multifaceted American animator, voice actor, and musician whose creative genius left an indelible mark on the world of animation. He began his career at the Harman and Ising animation studio in 1930, where he honed his skills and gained recognition for his work on various cartoons, including Captain and the Kids.

In 1937, while employed at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Hanna met Joseph Barbera, and together they forged a partnership that would revolutionize television animation. In 1957, they co-founded Hanna-Barbera, which quickly became the most successful animation studio in the industry, producing beloved shows such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, and Yogi Bear.

Under their leadership, Hanna-Barbera created cultural icons, with their characters appearing in films, books, and toys. The studio's success was further solidified when it was sold to Taft Broadcasting for twelve million dollars in 1967, although Hanna and Barbera continued to lead the company until 1991. The studio later transitioned to Turner Broadcasting System and eventually merged with Time Warner in 1996, with Hanna and Barbera remaining as advisors.

Throughout their illustrious careers, Hanna and Barbera received numerous accolades, including seven Academy Awards for Tom and Jerry and eight Emmy Awards. Their work has reached a global audience of over three hundred million people, with their shows translated into more than twenty-eight languages, solidifying their legacy in the animation industry.
