William McKay Wright

William McKay Wright was a prominent lawyer and political figure in Quebec, Canada, born on November twelfth, eighteen forty. He hailed from Hull, Lower Canada, as the son of Ruggles Wright and the grandson of the notable Philemon Wright. His educational journey took him to McGill University, where he laid the foundation for his future career in law.

Wright was called to the bar in Lower Canada in eighteen sixty-three and later in Ontario in eighteen sixty-eight. His legal career flourished in Aylmer, Hull, and Ottawa, where he became well-respected in his field. In eighteen sixty-four, he married Mary, the daughter of senator James Skead, further intertwining his life with influential figures of the time.

In addition to his legal pursuits, Wright was actively involved in his community. He served as a lieutenant in the local militia during the Fenian raids, demonstrating his commitment to public service. His political career peaked when he represented Pontiac in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal-Conservative member from eighteen seventy-two to eighteen seventy-eight.

Wright's civic contributions continued as he became the first mayor of the township of South Hull, now known as Lucerne, serving from eighteen seventy-nine to eighteen eighty-one. Tragically, his life was cut short when he passed away in New Edinburgh at the young age of forty-two. His legacy continued through his daughter, Ethel, who married Bernard Thomson, the son of the esteemed writer Edward William Thomson.
