William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare, born in April fifteen sixty-four in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, is celebrated as one of the greatest playwrights and poets in the English language. Often referred to as the 'Bard of Avon,' he has left an indelible mark on literature and drama, with a body of work that includes approximately thirty-nine plays, one hundred fifty-four sonnets, and several narrative poems.

At the age of eighteen, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, and together they had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. His career took off in London between fifteen eighty-five and fifteen ninety-two, where he became a prominent actor and writer, as well as a part-owner of the Lord Chamberlain's Men, a leading theatrical company that later became known as the King's Men.

Shakespeare's prolific writing spanned from fifteen eighty-nine to sixteen thirteen, during which he produced a remarkable array of works. His early plays, primarily comedies and histories, are celebrated for their brilliance, while his later tragedies, including Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth, are regarded as some of the finest in English literature. In the final phase of his career, he ventured into tragicomedies, such as The Winter's Tale and The Tempest, often collaborating with other playwrights.

Despite the vast influence of his works, few records of Shakespeare's personal life remain, leading to much speculation about his character and beliefs. He appears to have retired to Stratford around the age of forty-nine, passing away three years later. The First Folio, published in sixteen twenty-three by his friends John Heminges and Henry Condell, stands as a testament to his enduring legacy, encapsulating thirty-six of his plays and solidifying his status as a timeless literary figure.
