Wilson Zhang

Wilson Zhang, born on September twenty-third, nineteen seventy-nine, is a distinguished Canadian table tennis player of Chinese origin. He has made significant contributions to the sport, achieving a world ranking of one hundred forty by the International Table Tennis Federation as of January two thousand ten. Known for his right-handed play and shakehand grip, Zhang has established himself as a formidable competitor on the international stage.

In two thousand three, Zhang relocated with his family to Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, where he embraced a new role as a full-time table tennis coach at the Bridgeport Sports Club. It was here that he met and married a Canadian, and together they have two children. After four years, Zhang obtained Canadian citizenship and eventually moved to Ottawa, Ontario, where he trained at the National Table Tennis Centre under the guidance of his personal and head coach, Marles Martins.

Zhang's competitive prowess was evident as he reigned as the Canadian table tennis champion for three consecutive years from two thousand five to two thousand seven. He also showcased his skills by finishing second at the two thousand seven U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nevada, and clinching the championship title at the North American Tour finals.

His dedication to the sport earned him a place on the Canadian team for the two thousand eight Summer Olympics in Beijing. Zhang secured his spot by placing second to his teammate Pradeeban Peter-Paul in the men's singles at the North American Qualification Tournament in Vancouver. Competing alongside Peter-Paul and Qiang Zhen in the inaugural men's team event, the team faced tough competition, finishing fourth in the preliminary pool round against Germany, Croatia, and Singapore. In the men's singles, Zhang achieved victory over Trinidad and Tobago's Dexter St. Louis before facing a challenging match against Japan's Seiya Kishikawa, concluding with a set score of two to four.
