Winnifred Eaton

Winnifred Eaton, born in eighteen seventy-five and passing in nineteen fifty-four, was a notable Canadian author whose literary contributions were marked by her unique cultural heritage. Of Chinese-British descent, she chose to publish her works under the Japanese pseudonym Onoto Watanna, a name that resonated with her readers and allowed her to explore themes of identity and belonging.

In addition to her literary pursuits, Eaton was a dedicated missionary and educator. She served as the first Principal of the Eva Rose York Bible Training and Technical School for Women in Tuni, where she played a pivotal role in empowering women through education and spiritual guidance.
