Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Wolfgang Lüth

Wolfgang Lüth, born on October fifteenth, nineteen thirteen, was a distinguished German U-boat captain during World War II. He is renowned for his remarkable achievements, having sunk forty-six merchant ships and the French submarine Doris across fifteen war patrols, accumulating a total tonnage of two hundred twenty-five thousand two hundred four gross register tons.

His naval career began when he joined the Reichsmarine in nineteen thirty-three. After completing his training on surface vessels, Lüth transitioned to the U-boat service in nineteen thirty-six. By December nineteen thirty-nine, he had taken command of U-9, leading it on six war patrols. His leadership continued to shine as he commanded U-138 in June nineteen forty and later the ocean-going submarine U-43 in October of the same year, where he completed five additional patrols.

After a series of successful missions on U-181, Lüth's exceptional service was recognized with the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds, making him one of the first two U-boat commanders to receive such an honor during the conflict.

Following the war, Lüth's final position was as the commander of the Naval Academy Mürwik near Flensburg. Tragically, he was accidentally shot and killed by a German sentry on the night of May thirteenth to fourteenth, nineteen forty-five. His contributions were honored with a state funeral by the Flensburg Government on May sixteenth, nineteen forty-five.
