Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Wu Daozi

Wu Daozi, also known as Daoxuan and Wu Tao Tzu, was a prominent Chinese painter of the Tang dynasty, born around six hundred eighty CE. His artistic legacy is celebrated for marking the zenith of court painting in China, a period characterized by remarkable creativity and innovation.

Despite facing adversity early in life, including the loss of his father and subsequent poverty, Wu Daozi's passion for art flourished. He honed his skills in calligraphy under the tutelage of renowned masters Zhang Xu and He Zhizhang before dedicating himself to the art of painting.

Wu Daozi is credited with pioneering realistic techniques and establishing formal brushwork, which significantly influenced the evolution of landscape painting. His unique approach to depicting figures, characterized by round strokes that conveyed the fluidity of clothing, set a new standard in the art world.

Although none of his original works have survived, the impact of his artistry endures through later copies that draw inspiration from his original drawings. Art historian Michael Sullivan regards him as one of the masters of the seventh century, underscoring his importance in the history of Chinese art.
