Wyndham Lewis

Wyndham Lewis, born on November eighteenth, eighteen eighty-two, was a multifaceted Canadian-born British artist whose contributions spanned writing, painting, and criticism. As a co-founder of the Vorticist movement, he played a pivotal role in shaping modern art and literature, bringing a unique perspective to the cultural landscape of his time.

Lewis was not only an influential painter but also an accomplished novelist. His literary works include the notable novel Tarr, published between nineteen sixteen and nineteen seventeen, and the ambitious Human Age trilogy, which features The Childermass from nineteen twenty-eight, along with Monstre Gai and Malign Fiesta, both released in nineteen fifty-five. Although a fourth volume, The Trial of Man, was left unfinished at his passing, his literary legacy remains impactful.

In addition to his fiction, Lewis penned two autobiographical volumes: Blasting and Bombardiering, released in nineteen thirty-seven, and Rude Assignment: A Narrative of my Career Up-to-Date, published in nineteen fifty. These works provide insight into his life and the artistic movements he influenced.
