Xiang Jingyu

Xiang Jingyu, born in 1895, emerged as a formidable force in early twentieth-century China, making her mark as a politician and journalist. She is celebrated as one of the earliest female members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and is recognized by Chairman Mao Zedong as the only female founder of the CCP. Her contributions have solidified her legacy as a pioneer of the women's movement in China.

Throughout her career, Xiang was dedicated to uniting various women's movements across the nation, focusing on the empowerment of women workers and advocating for anti-imperialist principles. Her efforts were instrumental in rallying support for labor strikes, particularly those associated with the May Thirtieth Movement, which sought to address the grievances of workers and promote social justice.

Tragically, Xiang's life was cut short in 1928 when she was arrested and executed by the Kuomintang (KMT). Her unwavering commitment to the cause of women's rights and labor movements continues to inspire generations, marking her as a significant figure in the history of China's social and political landscape.
