Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Yagan

Yagan was a prominent Aboriginal Australian warrior hailing from the Noongar people, known for his fierce resistance against colonial encroachment. His life took a tragic turn when he retaliated against the killing of a fellow Noongar by a servant of farmer Archibald Butler. This act of vengeance led to Yagan being pursued by local authorities after he killed Erin Entwhistle, a servant of Butler.

The government, in response to Yagan's actions, placed a bounty on his head, dead or alive. This ultimately led to his demise at the hands of a young settler named William Keats, who shot Yagan, marking the end of a significant chapter in the struggle of the Noongar people.

In a grim aftermath, settlers severed Yagan's head to claim the bounty, which was later sent to London. There, it was displayed as an 'anthropological curiosity' before being stored in a museum in Liverpool for over a century. In 1964, it was finally buried in an unmarked grave.

The Noongar community, recognizing Yagan's legendary status, sought the repatriation of his remains for both cultural and spiritual reasons. After years of advocacy, the burial site was identified in 1993, and Yagan's head was exhumed four years later. Following extensive discussions within the Noongar community regarding a suitable final resting place, Yagan was laid to rest in a traditional ceremony in the Swan Valley in July 2010, one hundred seventy-seven years after his death.
