Yahya Muhammad Hamid ed-Din, born on June eighteenth, eighteen sixty-nine in Sanaa, was a prominent figure in Yemen's history. As the first king of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen, he ruled from nineteen eighteen until his assassination in nineteen forty-eight. His lineage traced back to the Hamidaddin branch of the al-Qasimi dynasty, which had governed much of Yemen and parts of present-day Saudi Arabia for over nine centuries.
In nineteen eighteen, Yahya ascended to the position of Imam of Yemen, having previously become Imam of the Zaydis, a sect of Shia Islam, in nineteen oh four following the death of his father, Muhammad Al-Mansur. His full title,
