Yamandú Orsi, born on June 13, 1967, is a prominent Uruguayan politician and history teacher, currently serving as the 43rd president of Uruguay since March 2025. His political journey is deeply rooted in the left-wing Movement of Popular Participation, a key faction of the Broad Front party.
Orsi's career in public service began with his role as intendant of the Canelones Department, where he served from 2015 until February 2020, and then again from November 2020 to 2024. His commitment to education is evident in his background as a history teacher, having graduated from the Instituto de Profesores Artigas in 1991.
Throughout his career, he has worked in various secondary schools across the Canelones, Florida, and Maldonado departments, shaping the minds of future generations. His political activism began in his adolescence, initially aligning with the Vertiente Artiguista before joining the Movement of Popular Participation in 1990, shortly after its founding.
