Yanis Varoufakis

Yanis Varoufakis, born on March twenty-four, nineteen sixty-one, is a prominent Greek economist and politician known for his influential role in European politics. He co-founded the Democracy in Europe Movement twenty twenty-five (DiEM25) in two thousand sixteen, a left-wing pan-European political party aimed at reforming the European Union.

Varoufakis gained international recognition during his tenure as Greece's Minister of Finance from January to July two thousand fifteen. Appointed by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, he was at the forefront of negotiations during the Greek government-debt crisis, advocating for the country's financial interests amidst a challenging economic landscape.

His political journey began with Syriza, where he was first elected as a Member of the Hellenic Parliament, representing the Athens B constituency from January to September two thousand fifteen. Following his ministerial role, he continued his political career as a Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki A from July two thousand nineteen to May twenty twenty-three, this time as a member of MeRA25.

In addition to his political endeavors, Varoufakis is a non-fiction writer and university teacher, contributing to the discourse on economics and politics. He is also a co-founder of the Progressive International, further solidifying his commitment to progressive politics on a global scale.
