Yann LeCun

Yann LeCun, a prominent French-American computer scientist, has made significant contributions to the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and image compression. Currently, he holds the esteemed position of Jacob T. Schwartz Professor of Computer Science at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.

Before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey, LeCun served as the Chief AI Scientist at Meta Platforms, where he played a pivotal role in advancing AI technologies. His groundbreaking work on optical character recognition and the development of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has established him as a leading figure in the AI community.

In collaboration with Léon Bottou and Patrick Haffner, LeCun co-created the DjVu image compression technology, further showcasing his innovative spirit. Additionally, he co-developed the Lush programming language with Bottou, contributing to the evolution of programming in AI.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to deep learning, LeCun, alongside Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton, was awarded the prestigious Turing Award by the Association for Computing Machinery in two thousand eighteen. This trio, along with Jürgen Schmidhuber, is often referred to as the 'Godfathers of AI' and 'Godfathers of Deep Learning.'
