Yarisley Silva

Yarisley Silva, born on June first, nineteen eighty-seven, is a distinguished Cuban pole vaulter who has made significant strides in the world of athletics. She is celebrated for winning the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, marking a historic achievement as the first Latin American athlete to secure an Olympic medal in the pole vault event.

Silva's journey in athletics began to gain momentum at the regional level, where she showcased her talent by earning a silver medal at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, followed by a bronze at the 2007 Pan American Games. Her prowess continued to shine as she clinched gold medals at the 2009 Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics and the 2011 Pan American Games.

As a trailblazer for Cuban women in pole vaulting, Silva became the first female athlete from Cuba to achieve a world-class standard in this discipline. Her remarkable personal bests of four point ninety meters outdoors and four point seventy-eight meters indoors stand as the Cuban and Central American and Caribbean records for the event.
