Yasmin Ratansi

Yasmin Ratansi, born on January fourth, nineteen fifty-one, is a distinguished former Canadian politician known for her impactful role in the House of Commons. Representing the Toronto-area riding of Don Valley East, she served two significant terms from two thousand four to two thousand eleven and again from two thousand fifteen to two thousand twenty-one. Her political journey began with her election as a Liberal in the two thousand four federal election, where she made history as the first Muslim woman elected to Parliament.

After a successful tenure, Ratansi faced defeat in the two thousand eleven election but made a remarkable comeback in two thousand fifteen, securing re-election in two thousand nineteen. However, her political career took a turn when she left the Liberal Party on November ninth, two thousand twenty, following a CBC News investigation that uncovered her violation of parliamentary rules regarding the employment of her sister in her constituency office.
