Yelena Slesarenko

Yelena Slesarenko, born on February twenty-eighth, nineteen eighty-two, is a distinguished Russian high jumper who rose to prominence in the world of athletics in the early 2000s. Her breakthrough came in two thousand four when she cleared an impressive two point zero four metres, securing victory at the World Indoor Championships. This remarkable performance set the stage for a stellar outdoor season, where she triumphed at the SPAR European Cup, further enhancing her personal best from one point nine seven metres, achieved in two thousand two.

The pinnacle of Slesarenko's career occurred at the two thousand four Summer Olympics, where she clinched the gold medal with a new national and personal record of two point zero six metres. This achievement not only surpassed the previous Olympic record set by Stefka Kostadinova in nineteen ninety-six but also showcased her potential as she attempted to clear two point one zero metres, which would have established a new world record. She concluded that season by winning the World Athletics Final, solidifying her status as a top competitor.

However, injuries plagued her in two thousand five, sidelining her for most of the season, including the World Championships.
